The Kodiak Island Borough's GIS system is running on ESRI's ArcGIS Server product.  The data in the GIS system is available for use with ESRI's ArcGIS products.  Below are instructions on adding it as a data source for some of their products.

ESRI ArcGIS

• Open ArcCatalog
• Expand the list of GIS Servers.
• Double-click on Add ArcGIS Server.
• Select Use GIS Services and click Next.
• Type http://gis.kodiakak.us/arcgis/services in the Internet Server URL field and click Finish.

ESRI ArcGIS Explorer

• Open ArcGIS Explorer
• Click Add Content and choose GIS Services...
• In the Add GIS Service field, make sure Server type is ArcGIS Server and http://gis.kodiakak.us/arcgis/services is in the Server field
• Select KIB from the Choose a service dialog box and click Add Service.
• The KIB layer will appear in your ArcGIS Explorer session.

ArcGIS Explorer is a free GIS software viewer from ESRI.  It is available here.

Extract Data

Data can be extracted from our ArcGIS Server for use on your local computer.  Follow the instructions below to download the Borough's data.

• Add the Borough's ArcGIS Server to ArcCatalog as depicted above.
• Open ArcMap and add the KIB-Extract map service to your mapping session from the ArcGIS server, gis.kodiakak.us
• Enable the Distributed Geodatabase toolbar.
• Click on the Extract Data tool.
• Select the desired location for the extracted data.
• Check the box that says Show advanced options for overriding data extraction defaults when I click Next and click Next
• Scroll down in the Choose which items you want to extract group to the row that starts with PACS in the Data column.
• Choose All Features for the Check Out for the PACS Table item and click Next
• Click Next and move thru the relationship class dialog box.
• Click Finish and the data will be extracted to the location specified above.

You should now have an extracted copy of the Borough's GIS data.  Meta can be found in the extracted data.
